However, a demi-glace sounds amazing. I'm sure you could tweak it with whatever you have. If using a demi-glace, I'm assuming you could use water to thin it out.Chez Meganehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10643734264145937047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20062672.post-19565755328105027782010-08-05T18:46:33.218-05:002010-08-05T18:46:33.218-05:00Hi, a few questions..how does the stew freeze? Sounds delicious, and I really need a recipe that will freeze well.michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05446202524102657773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20062672.post-65339259686224738252010-07-08T15:59:51.696-05:002010-07-08T15:59:51.696-05:00Making the stew right now...

Instead of cubing the potatoes, add small whole potatoes to the broth as it begins cooking. When the stew is finished and still simmering, ladle the potatoes in a large spoon and break into wonderful little uneven bite-sized pieces with a fork. Something so simple, yet the difference is incredible- I never knew WHY her soups/stews were so amazing until she shared this with me in my late 30's. Now you know.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20062672.post-56810588965642947752009-01-21T19:08:00.000-05:002009-01-21T19:08:00.000-05:00I'm trying this recipe tonight, so I can make it t...I'm trying this recipe tonight, so I can make it tomorrow. Take it out and let it thaw about 1 day in the fridge, or defrost it in the microwave. Pour it into a saucepan and heat slowly until the stew simmers and serve! Hope you enjoy it!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10210140338750290070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20062672.post-42534635927843313642007-04-12T13:14:00.000-05:002007-04-12T13:14:00.000-05:00Sounds delicious!! I'm definitely going to try it soon. Boozy stew? I'm all over that.

Also, I don't know why it has never occurred to me to marinate the meat before making beef stew. That's such an obvious fix! I always end up covering by adding tons of salt and wine...but have never been particularly happy with how my stew has turned out. Thanks for the excellent tip, and I'll let you know how my recreation of your recipe goes.

:-) Genie
The Inadvertent GardenerAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20062672.post-1162068030932476842006-10-28T15:40:00.000-05:002006-10-28T15:40:00.000-05:00Oh, and what a good granddaughter you are, making ...Oh, and what a good granddaughter you are, making all that delicious comfort food for your grandparents!Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01970997615781244805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20062672.post-1162067968887229282006-10-28T15:39:00.000-05:002006-10-28T15:39:00.000-05:00That looks amazing. It's funny because I made beef stew last Sunday and was also looking to make something different from the bourguinon. I never got it on the blog though.

Anyway -- bon appetit!Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01970997615781244805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20062672.post-1161973875380705682006-10-27T13:31:00.000-05:002006-10-27T13:31:00.000-05:00What a sweet idea -- food for your grandparents to...What a sweet idea -- food for your grandparents to freeze!
